Raid signups and you

Posted by QygiboMay 8, 2009 at 3:19 am
As of late I have been noticing some people not signing up for raids on our website.  Now, there could be a whole variety of reasons for not signing up, but it is so important for us that if you know or are reasonably certain that you will be able to come to a raid event that you sign up!  Why is this important?

Signing up lets us know what sort of event we should plan, whether it is Naxx, Ulduar, whatever.  It lets us know that people are interested in raiding with us, so that we can try to create a raiding schedule that suits the wants or needs of our guildies.  If we get enough interest it might even make it so that we are able to run two raiding groups a night, depending on who we have signing up and what they are ready for raiding wise depending on if they meet certain criteria.  Liz and myself are always striving to improve the guild for the benefit of the guildies, but we can't do that if we don't get adequate input from said guildies as to what they are interested in doing.

If there are doubts as to whether you are ready for certain content, ask!  Lizana and myself are readily avaiable to answer your questions, as well as any of our officer staff that we have.  We want to improve you to be the best possible player that you can be, but we can't do that without knowing what you are ready for raiding wise and without knowing just what you are interested in.  So please sign up and express your interest in our raiding!

Letter to the guild

“Everything will be ok.” This is the statement that we want everyone to think when you join their group. Everything will be ok, Seven Sins is here to help. We want each of our guildies to be able to go into any sort of situation, whether it's a simple 5 man, a group quest, a raid, whatever, and be able to inspire awe in people, because they know that a person in Seven Sins is someone who is knowledgeable, experienced, willing to help other people out with questions, and who is going to just plain kick ass in whatever role they happen to take.

Since the very beginning we have wanted our guild to progress; we have wanted the guild to push themselves as far as they can go and then a bit farther; and we have wanted people who were frequently with us to be rewarded. We want people to be knowledgeable in their chosen class. But at the same time, we are a guild and we are here to help. We are not here in order to play your character for you. We are here to hang out and be a family, but our overall goal has always been to progress in the game, both with our individual characters and with the guild as a whole.

A good guild member is one that not only shows up for guild events but is also someone who actively works to improve themselves and the guild. Your fellow guild mates are not only your friends and your “co-workers”, they are also your competition. You should always evaluate your current performance with everyone else in the guild to see where you stack up and how you can improve. To be a successful guild member is to never be complacent in your job; the commitment to improve your character is what makes the difference between attempting a boss and true progression. There's always room for improvement, no matter who you are, from our best geared 80s to our brand new level 1 alts; everyone has new things to experience and new ways to try old things. The phrase “good enough” is something that should never be said by a Seven Sins guild member. There's no such thing. The drive to improve your character beyond “good enough” is what separates a Seven Sins member from the other guilds.

To accomplish these goals and to bring the guild to where we have envisioned we are capable of being, some changes must be made. Over the upcoming weeks changes will be made across the guild as a whole. Some of these decisions will not be popular decisions. Some people may feel left out or picked on. This is not the case. Everything we are doing is for the guild as a whole. We think of each one of you as family, and we hope for the same respect back to us. We ask that you give these changes time to take hold to improve everyone as a whole, because only when everyone is strong will the guild be strong. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free at any time to ask us. We are here to help this guild. That is our job as GMs .

Thank you for your time and understanding,

New method of tracking dkp

Posted by QygiboDecember 28, 2008 at 6:01 pm
Last night Lizana and myself tested out a new site, at http:/www.gsdkp.com in order to see how we liked the site.  And as it turns out, we absolutely love it, and here is the link for our guild's new dkp tracker:  http://www.gsdkp.com/news.php?acc=16819

What does it do?  Basically it's easier than tracking an Excel spreadsheet of all the dkp (I will still do a weekly update on this site, but seriously, check out the new site).  It allows everyone to see what their dkp is after every boss fight, lets everyone know what items dropped and who they went to, and is instantly updated.  You don't need to register in order to view the dkp listings, just put that link into your bookmarks!

Also, while I am on the subject, we are modifying dkp rules a slight bit, please read up on them in the forums.  The DKP rules are a stickied thread in the Raiding subforums, please make sure you read up on them so that you're aware of the changes.

EDIT:  I've udpated the DKP manager that's avaialable on this site, if your name isn't on there it means you haven't registered with us on this site!  Also, I know I've been sporadic in updating that portion, and here's why.... the new dkp site only shows who actually has raided and has dkp.. the one on this site.. shows EVERYBODY.  Alts, people we haven't seen in ages, EVERYBODY.  Let me tell you, that's a pain to sort though.

Now that we're raiding....

I am for one excited that we are!  So far we've been having a pretty nice run in Naxxramas since we started it up on 12/2, and I know that we are bound for more and more success!  What we need help with from you:

  • Recruitment:  We need healers, first of all!  Any class of healer will be welcome within our ranks, as long as they love late night raiding.  A few other classes that would be great to have:  warlocks, druids, priests... well, basically what we're short on.
  • Reading our loot rules:  Our loot rules have been posted on our site for quite some time now, under Raiding in the forums.  Please read them!  It will help you in terms of answering a lot of your questions that you may have about how our loot works and understand why we have chosen this particular system that we use, so that you are prepared when it comes time to raid.
  • Knowing what YOU need:  Know what you need for an upgrade, or to do your job better, or so on. And if you don't know?  Don't be afraid to ask!  We are willing to help you or to point you in the right direction!  Just don't be afraid to talk to your guildies or more importantly, to your raid/guild leaders-- we don't know what you want/need unless you tell us.

What do you want to accomplish

... in WoLK?  I have made a new thread in our forums, and I'd love for you all to log into the forums, read and respond to this thread.  I want to know your thoughts!

Welcome, pt 2, and more news

Welcome to Seven Sins on Suramar.  This goes to all new people reading this as well as all those who are still with us in the guild.  I say this because in recent times people may have noticed we've had a few more departures than usual.  Some of them are fine--schedules change, and a guild like us that runs late night sometimes doesn't fit into people's schedules anymore.  Some of them are due to other reasons:  wanting to see the very end game content and such--and if that's your thing then that's fine as well.

I don't want people to worry about the departures, though, because guild leadership isn't necessarily worried.  I would rather have a guild that has fewer people who are active in it than a guild that has hundreds of members; with only a small amount of them on at a regular basis.  Here is what we are:  We are a guild that runs late at night... typically we've done our raiding at 9:30 pm server time, in this case server time being Pacific Standard Time.  Which means it'll be 10:30 pm Mountain Standard Time, 11:30 pm Central Standard Time (which is what Lizana and myself are at) and 12:30 pm Eastern Standard Time.  Yes, we are a bunch of nightowls, but that's part of what we are.  We're a somewhat casual raiding guild, which means that rather than break our backs trying to get to end game content, we want to have fun with what we do.  With Wrath of the Lich King a little over a month away, it's not a worthwhile investment to use guild funds for the resist gear that is needed for the higher raids.  And we're a guild where we want our guildies to come first.

What we are not:  We're not a guild that will force specs on your character, though we will want you to follow minimum speccing guidelines depending on your class and what you want to do in the game.  We're not a guild that forces participation in guild events or you're gone from the guild.  We're not a guild for the faint of heart or those who don't like mature language and themes.  We're not a guild of min/maxers. And we're not going to suddenly disappear overnight; we have guild leadership and guild officers who are a stable group of long term players that are dedicated to the longevity of the guild.

Lizana and I are preparing for the expansion to come out.  Everything will be a level playing field in terms of progression and we have build a guild first, a raid second.   We want to ready ourselves for the expansion, and we want to do that with you; we want to level with you and we want to have you with us to start raiding that new end game content together.  So again, to those who are with us, and to those who are new, welcome to Seven Sins :)
